Who We Are

Sky Candy’s mission is to share our love of aerial and circus arts with Austin, TX. We exist to foster a safe and supportive community for learning, performance and collaboration.

Since 2010, Sky Candy has been East Austin’s own aerial and circus arts studio. From our humble beginnings on a portable aerial rig with two teachers offering a handful of classes every week, we have grown into an internationally-recognized aerial and circus arts studio offering hundreds of classes with dozens of teachers each week at our two East Austin locations. In addition to classes and training space for aerialists of all levels, we offer summer camps, private parties, workshops with illustrious visiting instructors, space rental, and much much more!

IMG_7950The Sky Candy Studio offers drop-in and series classes, workshops, and private lessons in a variety of aerial, circus, dance, performance and fitness disciplines that cater to students of all skill levels, ages, abilities and aspirations. Our instructors come from a wide variety of backgrounds including aerial arts, circus, dance, burlesque, and theatre, and are passionate about sharing their skills with our students. We encourage all of our students to learn collaboratively in a safe, supportive atmosphere.

The Sky Candy Studio Company produces themed circus showcases throughout the year at various Austin venues – for more information about the next Studio Company showcase, visit our Upcoming Shows page. We also regularly host family-friendly Student Showcases and adult-only After Dark shows at our studio, as well as participating in community events such as Austin Maker Faire and the East Austin Studio Tour. Our troupe of professional aerialists are also available to book for events and private parties- check out our Booking Information page for more details, or e-mail booking@skycandyaustin.com!

We believe in upholding every participant’s right to be themselves, while celebrating our diversity and maintaining an environment for safe aerial and circus practice.

For us, “safe” has two meanings. As a teaching studio, we want to provide a safe environment for our students to learn and develop new skills. We accomplish this by ensuring our buildings are approved by structural engineers and professional aerial riggers for dynamic human load, using only highly rated, consistently inspected equipment, employing trained instructors with a focus on responsible skill progression, and setting clear safety guidelines for all students, staff, and participants to follow.

Safe also means that we want all Sky Candy participants to feel comfortable in our studios and at our events. We want people of all ages, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical ability, physical appearance, body size, race, and religion to feel comfortable with taking a class, performing in a show, working with us, and otherwise engaging with our community.

We want you to know is that if something or someone makes you feel uncomfortable at one of our events, no matter how minor it seems, you can report it to us and we will take action.

Harassment of Sky Candy students, staff, and performers will not be tolerated and anyone violating this policy in a class, at the studio, or at a performance may be be removed, or, in extreme cases, banned from further interaction with the Sky Candy community.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments or attitudes related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion; deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of the event, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Please know that Sky Candy views neither ignorance or intoxication as an excuse for harassment.

If anyone engages in harassing behavior towards you, the Sky Candy Studio Directors will take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or banning them from future classes and events. If you feel you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the Sky Candy Studio Directors at studiodirectors@skycandyaustin.com or the Front Desk at frontdesk@skycandyaustin.com.

Sky Candy will be happy to help participants contact local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe when engaging with our community.

While we would like to feel that we offer an environment in which you can voice concerns about incidents as and when they happen, we also welcome you to reach out to us to inform us of past harassment or incidents related to our events which made you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
