We are so excited to be able to offer three different workshops with movement artist and founder of SOAR Aerial Dance, Gena Marie! You may recognize her from her stellar performance in our online show It’s Been So Long, I Forgot, where we collaborated with local Austin band The Foxtones.
Gena Marie has been an aerialist since 2009 and her work with SOAR focuses on collaborating with professional, local artists. SOAR attempts to bridge the gap between performance art and aerial dance by focusing on cooperation and honest storytelling. Additionally, Gena has certifications in Pilates, personal training, and multiple types of yoga, all of which she brings to bear in her aerial practice.
Gena is offering three different workshops for Lyra with us. These workshops are scheduled for March 13th and 14th, 2021. All her workshops require a solid understanding of foundational Lyra skills and the ability to mount unassisted. Each workshop is 90 minutes and there is a discount if you sign up for multiple ones.
Lyra Combos & Spins
To avoid unnecessary travel during the pandemic, we’ve cooked up a solution together that we hope students will enjoy. She will be joining us virtually from her studio in Durham, NC and we will be using webcams and a big screen TV for two-way communication. There will also be a Sky Candy Lyra instructor present for rigging adjustments, non-spotting assistance, and aerial rescue if needed. If it goes smoothly, we may be able to host other guest instructors at Sky Candy safely and cost effectively.
